Authorities in Yerevan are in contact with the International Committee of the Red Cross and other agencies to solve the problem of a citizen of Azerbaijan who has illegally crossed the border into Armenia.

The Armenian Defense Ministry reported that Telman Aliyev, a 41-year-old resident of the Azeri village of Mazamli, violated the Armenian border in the northeastern region of Tavush early on Monday and was apprehended by Armenian frontier-guards.

The man, who later proved to be deaf mute, was identified as a shepherd who had lost his way in a mist while searching his cattle.

Armenia indicated it had no intention to keep the Azeri citizen as a captive and was going to hand him over to international organizations for further transfer to his country.
