Yerevan mayor, GNC Alfa chiefs discuss future cooperation plans

Yerevan Mayor Taron Margaryan and senior representatives of GNC Alfa (a leading telecom operator in Armenia), discussed plans for future cooperation at a meeting in the Yerevan City Hall on Wednesday.
Greeting the guests and highlighting the importance of private companies’ reforms programs targeted at the enhancement of the municipal economy, the mayor said that the city authorities are ready to discuss and assist in all initiatives aimed serve the population of Yerevan and develop the capital.
“Over the two years of cooperation, the Yerevan City Hall and the GNC Alfa Company have implemented different projects that have had a documented success. I am sure our mutually beneficial cooperation will continue in future, covering other sectors,” he said, adding that GNC Alfa is a good partner for the City Hall.
Margaryan promised to assist the company in future joint initiatives.
GNC Alfa CEO Hayk Faramazayan told the mayor that they are now developing new packages for a mutually beneficial cooperation.
“With the reforms in the capital city under way, we too feel bound to call into being various social and investment projects. The company is planning to make large-scale reforms in Yerevan, particularly in broadband internet, cable television and telecommunication services,” he said.
Emphasizing the effectiveness of the company’s projects, particularly its activities towards installing optical cables and providing a WiFi internet access in six parks of the capital city, the mayor said, “We are planning to open new and bigger parks in Yerevan in 2013 and ensure a free access to the Internet there too. This project has found a wide response among the residents of our city, and different proposal have been submitted,” he said.
The sides also considered possibilities of ensuring a free access to broadband internet at several secondary schools and expanding cooperation.
Upon the mayor’s proposal, a joint working group will be set up in the near future to take practical steps towards implementation of the proposals.
