Special Elections: Republicans add two seats to parliamentary majority

By preliminary data the pro-establishment candidates won in the special elections held Sunday at two election district of Armenia for vacant parliamentary mandates, adding to the already overwhelming majority of the ruling Republicans in Armenia’s chief legislative body.

Election district N1 including Avan, Avan-Arinj and Nor Nork 2nd massive administrative areas was left without a representative in the parliament after the scandalous events with Republican MP Ruben Hayrapetyan, who was forced to put down his mandate following a murder at his family-owned restaurant.

District number 35 including Gyumri and 16 adjacent villages in Shirak province had a single-mandate representative – Samvel Balasanyan, who later got elected as mayor of Gyumri, having put down his mandate and leaving a vacant seat in the parliament.
