Courts must be the main guarantors of human rights protection, while in reality the judiciary is one of the most vulnerable points in Armenia, said Ombudsman Karen Andreasyan at a meeting with media today, December 10, which is marked as International Human Rights Day.

“The social vulnerability of our citizens, the absence of a free economic competition and mistrust towards electoral processes are also serious challenges from the point of view of human rights protection,” added the ombudsman.

Andreasyan said that his office in 2012 has advocated the rights of a total of about 5,600 people who have complained against government bodies, including police, ministries of justice, defense, labor and social affairs, Yerevan’s municipality and others.
