Wednesday’s announcement by the Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP) that it won’t nominate its own candidate, nor will support any other presidential hopeful, was taken calmly by the ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA), while the main opposition alliance did not react to the decision immediately.

RPA spokesman Eduard Sharmazanov told local media that they were taking the decision by PAP and its leader Gagik Tsarukyan in its stride.

“It is absolutely up to this party to make such decisions. We respect any civilized decision,” Sharmazanov commented, adding that the RPA wasn’t much concerned about PAP’s decision not to endorse any candidate in the upcoming presidential race.
