CEC to work through New Year holidays, says top election official

The Central Election Commission (CEC) will work throughout what is traditionally a period of New Year celebrations in Armenia marked by low political activity, Chairman Tigran Mukuchyan told a local daily.

Under Armenia’s Constitution and election laws the period of nominations in a presidential election must start no later than 55 days before the vote and last for 10 days. Since the presidential ballot has been scheduled for February 18, the period falls on December 25-January 4.

The New Year holidays will not create any obstacles to the nomination of candidates, Mukuchyan said in a broader interview with Hayots Ashkharh published today.
