Armenia and the European Union have reached agreement on a new regime that would make it easier for Armenian travelers to obtain short-stay visas for travel within EU countries.

Armenia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Edward Nalbandian joined EU officials in signing the agreement Monday in Brussels.

Pending ratification by the European Parliament, as early as next summer visitors from Armenia will be able to travel to European-Union-member countries cheaper and with less paperwork. (A “short-stay” visa is defined as a “an intended stay of no more than 90 days per period of 180 days”.)

Under the agreement some frequent travelers, under certain conditions, would receive multiple-entry visas valid up to five years. Visitors traveling for approved research, students, pensioners and children younger than age 12 would be exempted from any handling fee.
