Soccer: Armenia slightly improves in FIFA=?UTF-8?B?4oCZ?=s monthly rankings amid overall fall in 2012

Armenia climbed seven positions up to the 75th spot on the updated rankings of 200 or so soccer nations released by the game’s international governing body FIFA on Wednesday.

With Morocco and Benin as its neighbors, Armenia finishes the year far from the 42nd spot that the nation enjoyed only about a year ago after routing such European stalwarts as Slovakia, Macedonia and others in Euro-2012 qualifying.

The current World Cup qualifying campaign is less successful for Vardan Minasyan’s side that in three games played so far could beat only Malta, while losing to Bulgaria and Italy.

A spectacular 4-2 win over Lithuania in a friendly in November must have helped the team move a little higher on the ladder.
