Russian Nezavisimaya Gazeta has referred to the visit of Georgia’s PM Bidzina Ivanishvili to Azerbaijan. The article’s author reminds that on the eve of the visit Ivanishvili congratulated Azerbaijani President on his birthday.
Georgia’s President Mikheil Saakashvili also congratulated his Azerbaijani counterpart.“The warmth of congratulation and directness shadowed the issues Ivanishvili raised in Tbilisi,” the author of the article writes.
Earlier in Tbilisi Georgia’s PM voiced his concern over Baku-Tbilisi-Akhalkalak-Kars railway agreed with some economic factors. He stressed the implementation of the project may harm the efficiency of the Georgian ports and railways.
In its eralier publication the Russian paper concluded that such statements create an opportunity to get utmost benefit during the negotiations with Baku. It might have been the transit price of the transported cargos, gas tariff.
The Georgian government is also seeking ways to reduce the electricity tariff for people like it has promised during the pre-electoral period.
Georgia’s energy minister Kakha Kaladze before the departure stated that among the core issues to be discussed was the gas tariff and voiced hope that they would manage to reach agreement with the Azerbaijani side.
Azerbaijani experts stated at different occasions that Baku exports gas to Georgia with a price not existing in the world, and why the Georgian people pay high prices for it depends on the interior gas supply system and not Azerbaijan.
“No one though claims that the Azerbaijani authorities will refute the request of the Georgian delegation. The hospitability rules have not changed in Caucasus especially in case when arrangement reached during Ivanishvili’s first visit may be a good guarantee for mutual understanding, even if the reduction in price will be symbolizing for Georgia,” the article runs.
Ivanishvili believes that Georgian-Azerbaijani relations have good future. “I am convinced that Ilham Aliyev and I will succeed in bringing the relations on new qualitative level,” he said.
While the Russian paper continues that not all in Tbilisi are optimistic saying during a phone conversation using friendly ties Saakashvili could have asked Aliyev something that would contradict the plans of the new government of Georgia.
