Koryun Nahapetyan, an MP from the ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA), believes that the reason for a number of political forces’ refusal to participate in the 2013 presidential election in Armenia is their realizing their potential.“They are considering the developments after the parliamentary elections,” Mr Nahapetyan said at a debate.Armen Martirosyan, an MP from the Heritage party, considers boycott of elections unacceptable. On the other hand, he understands the reasons.“One after another the political forces state they are not participating in the elections because, according to them, the election results are known beforehand. So they do not see any sense in participating,” he said.Mr Martirosyan does not think the upcoming presidential election will involve any problems of legitimacy. “Because it is only due to their own resources that the authorities have to make people vote,” he said.In response, Mr Nahapetyan said that forcing people to vote at elections is unacceptable to the RPA. “I am sure many people will vote for this candidate or that one,” he said.
