Armenians pay too much attention to New Year – priest

In contrast to Christmas, Armenians pay too much attention to the New Year, the priest Shmavon Ghevondyan told Tert.am.Armenians are in the habit of taking hearty meals on New Year, which is “anti-Christian” practice.“Yes, we value one more year of our life. But only six days separate them. You can see people’s enthusiasm about the New Year and lack of it about Christmas. A Christian must clearly differentiate what is more important. Christmas is one of the special holidays that revive a man. It carries great light, but the New Year does not,” the priest said.Differentiating the holidays that follow each other, any Armenian can see which one is true and which one is false.“New Year was intended to counterbalance Christmas for people to forget about Christmas,” Shmavon Ghevondyan said.According to him, on Christmas people must attend liturgies.“Each Armenian Christian must realize that. After that their thinking and everyday life will change,” the priest s aid.
