Top Armenian grandmaster Levon Aronian has scored two draws in the opening rounds of a major international tournament being held in the Netherlands these days.

In the first two rounds of Tata Steel in Wijk aan Zee over the weekend, Aronian, the winner of last year’s edition of the tournament, shared points with Dutch Loek van Wely and Norwegian Magnus Carlsen.

Group A, the strongest section of the tournament, brings together 14 leading grandmasters, including the reigning world champion Viswanathan Anand from India.

Sergei Movsesian, another Armenian taking part in Tata Steel’s Group B Tournament, also tied both his games played at the weekend.
