Top Armenian grandmaster Levon Aronian scored two victories and a draw in his latest three games at a major international tournament being held in the Netherlands these days.

The results in Rounds 6, 7 and 8 of Tata Steel in Wijk aan Zee helped the Armenian close his gap on the current leaders – FIDE’s No 1 player Magnus Carlsen (Norway) and reigning world champion Viswanathan Anand (Aronian is now trailing them by a point and half a point, respectively).

Aronian beat Peter Leko from Hungary on Friday before drawing against Russia’s Sergey Karjakin and again beating Yifan Hou from China in the weekend games.
