Decision 2013: All eyes on Raffi as presidential ballot ends in Armenia

According to the preliminary results announced by the Central Election Commission this morning incumbent President Serzh Sargsyan has been reelected with more than 58 percent of the votes. However, supporters of the officially second-placed candidate Raffi Hovannisian (who got about 37 percent of the vote) insisted all night that he had won in all major cities and towns and that at least the runoff should be appointed.

“Now everything depends on Hovannisian,” Hrant Bagratyan, another opposition challenger who finished a distant third in the vote, wrote on his Facebook account overnight.

The lingering question in Armenia now is whether the Heritage party leader will choose to continue his struggle or will be satisfied with the considerable vote of confidence that he has got from the people.
