Russian President Vladimir Putin has congratulated his Armenian counterpart Serzh Sargsyan on his reelection in the February 18 ballot that officially gave him more than 58 percent of the vote.

As reported by the Armenian president’s press service, during a telephone conversation Putin congratulated Sargsyan on his “convincing” victory and wished him every success. The Russian leader also wished “peace, stability and prosperity” to the friendly Armenian people.

Putin reportedly expressed confidence that under newly elected president Sargsyan the Russian-Armenian strategic partnership would continue to develop in the same spirit “for the benefit of the two states and peoples.”
