Mkrtich Minasyan, an MP from the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA), believes that Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan’s meetings with journalists shows he is a political figure and leader with realistic views, who is concerned over the country. As regards Raffi Hovannisian’s hunger strike, he called it “voluntary.”In his interviews, President Serzh Sargsyan stated his readiness for discussions, which means making proposals rather than “X’ing.”“There have been numerous proposals, but I have not seen them discussed. Raffi Hovannisian team members are making indecent statements,” Mr Minasyan said. The ethnographer Hranush Kharatyan, in turn, disagreed with the MP, quoting the Armenian president’s “pearls of thought.” “They are either concealing from us, without saying anything about reforms, or we do not see anything. Are journalists to blame because they do not write about what has allegedly been done,” Ms Kharatyan said. With respect to the Armenian president’s statement on progress in freedom of speech in Armenia, Ms Kharatyan said that it is “barking flying to the winds.”Armenia’s authorities do not show any readiness to discuss the current situation and find the way out of it, Ms Kharatyan said.In response, Mr Minasyan said that Raffi Hovannisian’s statement that Serzh Sargsyan’s inauguration will only take place over his “dead body” is absurd. “The president has been elected, and the inauguration will certainly take place,” he said. However, Ms Kharatyan does not rule such a scenario out “because we have an experience when the president went to his inauguration stepping over the barbed wire.”  Armenian News
