Post-election Armenia: Hunger-striking candidate refuses medical check-up

Former presidential candidate Raffi Hovhannisian, who has been on a hunger-strike for about a fortnight, is still unwilling to let doctors check his condition.
An ambulance doctor, who preferred to remain unnamed, told Tert.am in Yerevan’s Liberty Square that the opposition Heritage party’s leader has not allowed any examination, giving assurances that he feels quite all right.
Hovhannisian, who received about 37% of votes in the February 18 presidential election, declared a hunger-strike after his March 9 rally in the square, urging re-elected President Serzh Sargsyan to step down. The politician disputes the voting results, considering himself the true winner.
The rock bands Mikael Voskanyan and Friends, and Norayr Kartashyan and Friends, were preparing for a concert in Liberty Square. Young activists waiting for the event were playing the guitar.
