Opposition members charge police with interfering in call for rally

Members of opposition leader Raffi Hovannisian’s party say police are trying to interfere with Tuesday’s scheduled “inauguration of a new Armenia” by tearing down announcements calling for public attendance.

Organizers of the rally have received an official permit from Yerevan City Hall.

Heritage party member Daniel Ionisian told ArmeniaNow, that Sunday evening party activists witnessed and videotaped a vehicle whose passengers tore off the information flyers.

“It was a non-state license plate car, and when later we were on our way to the police to report the incident, we saw the same car pass by us right at the entrance to the police station. It had the same front license plate, and two policemen got out of it,” says Ionisian, adding that the car rapidly drove away as soon as those inside spotted them.
