No violations during municipal election campaign – NGO

The Electoral Systems Center NGO, which is monitoring the Yerevan municipal elections campaign, has not recorded any serious violations, and all the political forces had equal conditions.NGO Chairman Vahram Vardanyan said that, besides informing the public of their activities, the Armenian National Congress (ANC) party and the Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP) are largely practicing negative PR.“Large parties, ANC and PAP, which did not take part in the presidential election campaign, but are represented in Yerevan’s Council of Elders, are now laying the whole responsibility on the authorities. They did not actually take part in the council’s meetings, but they are accusing the authorities. We view this as negative PR,” Vardanyan told journalists on Wednesday.Referring to poll results, he said that 86.7% of the residents believe it is the Council of Elders that must deal with city problems. All the violations recoded during the elections will be reported after the elec tions, Vardanyan said. With respect to the Mission party’s complaints, he said that they would have responded if they had been informed. With respect to reports on election bribes and use of administrative resources, Vardanyan said they were proved to be rumors. The Electoral Systems Center NGO plans monitoring of the election process on May 5.According to the NGO-conducted polls, the RPA is the leader, followed by the PAP and Armen Martirosyan (Heritage party).
