CEC puts final voter turnout in Yerevan elections at over 53 percent

More than 53.5 percent of Yerevan’s roughly 816,000 eligible voters went to the polls in the City Council elections that closed at 8 pm.

According to the preliminary data presented by Central Election Commission (CEC) Chairman Tigran Mukuchyan one hour after the closure of the polls, during 12 hours of balloting a total of 437,021 citizens exercised their voting rights in the Armenian capital.

The highest turnout was reported in the Nork-Marash district (over 62 percent), while the lowest, according to the CEC data, was in Malatia-Sebastia (under 45 percent).

The Yerevan-wide voter turnout in the first City Council elections held in 2009 was put at 52.85 percent.
