Yerevan Vote 2013: Second, third finishers set to pick up seats in Council of Elders

The second and third finishers in the May 5 elections to Yerevan’s Council of Elders – the Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP) and the Hello Yerevan bloc, are mostly unlikely to refuse to pick up their mandates in the 65-member body to be dominated by the big winner of the day, the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA). At least, no such hints were made by representatives of either force the day after the elections.

The PAP, which according to the preliminary results published by the Central Election Commission, came in a distant second with 23.8 percent of the vote (in contrast to the RPA’s nearly 56-percent tally) kept silence for most of the day on Monday, issuing a statement only closer to the evening. In its statement, the PAP, in fact, stopped short of making an assessment of the vote proper.
